'I never tired of hearing the same old line whenever someone spilt the salt, burnt the toast or allowed the milk to boil over. Such is the familiarity and charm of folklore ...'

Tucker Track is a unique treasury of Australia's fascinating culinary traditions, from an authentic recipe for kangaroo tail cooked the Aboriginal way, to the peculiar craze for 'paperbag cooking' in the 1920s, to nostalgic reminicences of musk sticks and Choo Choo Bars. Brimming with examples of culinary wisdom, old wives' tales, schoolyard rhymes, songs and jokes, Tucker Track takes us on an evocative journey that stops off at iconic foods, festivals, rituals, school tuckshops, dinner parties, takeaways, etiquette, and many other stations on the way.

Warren Fahey grew up surrounded by songs, stories, ditties, customs and superstitions. They were woven into the fabric of his childhood, where he helped Mum with the baking on Saturdays, listened to his Grandpa Sid as he strained his delicious chicken soup through an old stocking, and shared tales and a comforting Sunday roast with family and friends jammed around the old dining room table. His experiences instilled him with a passion for preserving Australia's folklore, and this delightful collection is the result of thirty years of gathering family remembrances, diaries, cuttings from magazines and newspapers, and scribblings made on the back of scraps of paper in kitchens and restaurants around Australia.

This entertaining compendium is guaranteed to trigger long-lost memories and delight readers with every page turned.
