1. Don't Let 'em Close Our Mill (P Davies/R Ilott)
Recently I revisited the village where my Dad grew up in Nottinghamshire, England, and saw how the closing of the local coalmine had ravaged the community. The families living there had so obviously lost heart. When I heard the news about a Queensland sugar mill under threat it brought the image back to me. It could be a mine, a mill, a factory. Whenever the heart of town is threatened people have to take a stand.
2. Whenever You Come My Way (P Davies/R Ilott)
As children grow and change, parents are faced with the knowledge that they must let their children go. This song reflects the growth and challenges that are ahead for all parents and children.
3. The Marree Line (T Egan)
Ted Egan, from Alice Springs in the Northern Territory, wrote this moving story about a couple who tell in love but were kept apart by their families' cultural differences. Marree is at the junction of the Oodnadatta and Birdsville tracks in South Australia.
4. Who Knows Where The Time Goes (S Denny)
My favourite song, written by my favourite singer, the U.K.s Sandy Denny. We first started recording this song in 1988 and finally finished it 13 years later.
5. Call It Flamin' Hot! (M Fatchen/R Ilott)
We heard this poem by Bill Scott's great friend, Max Fatchen from Adelaide, one morning on 'Australia All Over', and it called out to be a song. It's the temperature-challenged South Australian reply to 'The Monkeys Sing Soprano'!
6. If I Could (P Davies/R Ilott)
Sometimes its hard to say exactly what you want to say - so you take a circuitous route.
7. The Brandy Tree (G Bok)
Gordon Bok, who lives in Maine, USA, wrote this little miracle of a song with the help of an otter. It always reminds me of the chapter in Wind In The Willows 'The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn' and is a marvellous example of how a small story or image can have a huge resonance
8. Caboolture Days (W Scott/R Ilott)
Though born in Bundaberg, Bill Scott spent much of his childhood in Caboolture, a small town north of Brisbane, where he and his brother and friends wandered wild through the bush.
9. Turn Again (M Scott/R Ilott)
Mavis Scott wrote this sad, yet beautifully optimistic song about separation from a loved one.
10. A Fisherman Bold (R Ilott)
Ah! This is the life.....a fishing rod, blue sky, out on the ocean in your little tinnie. Fishing's the best excuse for doing nothing!
11. The Lighthouse (P Davies/R Ilott)
If you've ever known people who really love each other, you'll remember how they shine out on all their friends and bless them with their light and their warmth.
12. Out Of Sight (R Ilott)
Australian males are renowned for keeping their feelings to themselves (unless its in relation to their cricket or footie teams!). As a result, we're often left pondering the things we could've said to the one we love most and wishing we had.
13. Here And Now (P Davies/R Ilott)
When we were first together, Roger was often away performing with his band - but when we started playing music together, there was no one left at home to fix the tractor!
14. On Top Of High Peak (W Scott/R Ilott)
In 1953 Bill Scott worked on the 'Cape Leenwin', which ran from Brisbane to Thursday Island servicing lighthouses on the Barrier Reef.
15. Old Nugget (P Davies/R Ilott)
Kathleen Bradley, of Ballandean, Queensland, told me this story about the very harsh and personal impact of World War I on the life of a young country girl and her beloved horse.
16. The G.S.T.Calypso (W Scott/R Ilott)
The Federal government introduced the G.S.T. in the year 2000. Bill (Scott) and Roger have both battled the bureaucratic gobbledygook of the handbook for G.S.T. returns and come out the worse for wear. This song is their revenge!
17. We'll Meet On The Shore (P Davies/R Ilott)
In the turbulent times of your life, friends and family are the ones who keep you afloat, and give you a sense of peace and a safe harbour.
18. Ups And Downs (P Davies/R Ilott)
Relationships require hard work. So many falter at the first hurdle. But time, effort and perseverance bring great rewards. There are moments when you know your life has changed forever. That moment arrived tor both of us one night in July, 1976.
19. The Southern Cross (P Davies/R Ilott)
A song for departing loved ones - wherever they may go, may they travel safely.
